    That's a great banner!

She's so beautiful and it looks like you have a new career in retirement.

What are your thoughts on how simple folk can manage a good chance for a successful recovery? Do you think you could do an "Idiot's Guide?"

That's a good question Scott. We've talked about it and I think the answer is essentially no. I believe the reason Joyce dealt with this so well has many layers to it. She would be the first to tell you that I had a lot to do with the outcome and attitude through out. I used Facebook, internet forums, emails, and direct telephone calls to give her a "brand". As time went on she did her best to live up to that "brand" as a Crossfit Badass dealt a bump in the road. That was probably the key in this. The envelope of support in the way of a cheering section that wanted to be part of the adventure did directly require her to be the badass she is.

      How do you teach that?

That post is a good start.

I read this thread to Joyce over breakfast. At first she said a "guide" would not help most because cancer is not one disease but a name for a large group of diseases with different prognosis and outcome. To further complicate the issue is the variation in health levels of individuals going into the diagnosis and treatment phase. Fitness, both mentally and physically, helps.

Then she added the most important statement. This is the take home.

            GO PUBLIC EARLY!!

Your attitude can be infectious to those around you and that is the key to one positive and the key to a voiding one negative.

The positive is adding that army of supporters.

The negative to avoid is the "Elephant in the room". People, even close friends, will many times avoid those with cancer. "They don't know what to say". So the tip is....say it for them. "I have cancer, no big whoop, I'm still me. Wanna help?"
