  • Snow.

Looks like we will get hard freezes and a lot of snow Sunday through Monday. Bad news for the trees.

Since I have lived here for more than 10 minutes, I only have to cover the petunias and the hostas that have popped up. I never attempt to transplant tender things until after Mother's Day.

    Still kind of sucky, though.

On the bright side, I won't be commuting Monday morning.

    Yay for that!

We always plant May 15th..not sure why. More than likely one of our farmer neighbors told us to. But we have seen heavy frost the beginning of June that will freeze our basil..we just replant that.

This Spring our valley has lost some of their fruits. Apricots always go first..why is that? The farmers said the peaches, apples and pears don't look bad but those are the orchards that have the big fans (that sound like a Black Hawk helicopter landing on your roof as the blades turn our direction ) and the burn barrels. A lot of our own fruit tree buds froze but we'll still get enough for the two of us. I'll just have to buy fruit for canning.

No snow forecast for this side of the mountains. Rain through Wednesday and then it looks like summer is starting. I'm not ready for it this year. My allergies have finally calmed and I can be outside. I spent most of the Spring holed up in the house..boo!
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

We managed to get everything covered or moved so I think we're okay. It's the trees I worry about with these snows. The pines and the firs will be fine but the apple trees and the maple always make me concerned.

Hopefully the forecast will settle down by tomorrow morning. I'd be plenty happy if it was just rain even with a hard freeze.

A friend of mine came back from CO and showed me the pictures yesterday. Snow in the mountains. I'll put up with pollen instead.

65 today and I needed sunblock for working in the garden. Isn't climate change wonderful?

O'Hare and other airports had several delayed flights due to storms.

My sister was able to fly from Grand Island, NE to Las Vegas with no issues or delay. The longest delay was the two hours it took to get a rental car. That was almost as long as her non stop flight.
