Tough day to be a Packers fan.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

The rain just started here, and that will turn to sleet and then snow. Only 1-3" expected, but that will cripple the city. It's going to be violent, as it's nearly 60° here right now, and it's expected to be 3° tomorrow morning. The wind has been whipping up quite a bit this morning as this moves in.

I guess we're going to get some weather too, but here is how I spent the morning.

I should be thankful to not be getting any snow, but I'm not used to weather below the teens. Let's just get these next two days over with.

Well, The Tremendous Non-Event of 2014â„¢ has come and gone, dumping a stupendous 1/8" of snow on the Nashville Metro area, crippling the city beyond belief. Businesses and schools are closed tomorrow. State workers are being advised not to try to make it to the office in this horrible weather. Restaurants and other such businesses closed early tonight in order to let their employees get home in the viciously-blowing occasional flake.

My God, whatever shall we do? Wal-Mart may well be out of beer for a whole eight hours! We're all gonna die!

Mid-sixties here this afternoon. Looks like Tampa/St Pete is having its annual 2 days of winter Tuesday and Wednesday, then back into the seventies. Yeah, the coastal dwellers are all crazy for living where we do.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

So far this winter has really sucked around here.
First was the ice storm that had us without power from the Saturday before Christmas until the Friday after.
That just starts to clear up and we get below zero temps.
Now we have about 12 to 18 inches of snow on the ground in the last 24 hours covering the ice that didn't melt and temps for the week are predicted to be below freezing with below zero wind chills and a wind chill warning until Wednesday afternoon.

This is the worst winter so far that I can remember in this area in about the last 50 years, certainly since the advent of global man made weather changing warming something or other. Next person that tells me that can shove a cattle prod up their ass and flip the switch.
                          We are so fucked.

Well, you should have stocked up on your beer ahead of time. Haven't you read about the ant and the grasshopper?

We had a flurry of snow over the weekend but the worst of it dropped across the mountains. It was 8 degrees this morning and our snow on the ground since Thanksgiving is going fast.

Even though the high is only a few degrees over freezing, we still have our beautiful cornflower blue skies. This is the time of year we get to watch the stunning alpenglow come over the mountains. Since our view is the mountain range, I usually forget to go outside and turn around to look at the spectacular sunset this time of year produces. But as my daughter and I were driving back from town a few days ago, we caught this fiery sky in the rear view mirror and pulled over to take a photo:

May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.
