  • Most Fun/Relaxation You've Had ALONE.

You are home alone and no one will be back for hours (if ever). The bills are paid, the living room has been painted, and the dog has been washed. You have absolutely nothing on your mental 'To Do' list.

For the purposes of this question, you may go to the grocery store, liquor store, or hardware store once but then you must return home and be in isolation - no parties, no escorts, no impromptu neighborhood BBQs. You are free to do as you please for the next 24 hours at home, alone.

    What do you do?

You can be boring or weird or scary - there are no "right" answers here.

(If your answer involves masturbation, see Nova's thread in the 'Bones'.)

Is there a budget? I could download and read a LOT of Kindle books in 24 hours.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

Only your own - remember, your bills are paid! Assume your paycheck has hit the bank. You still have to make your rent or mortgage or whatever you have but your entertainment money is fresh.

Well, you can hang out on the patio or go out to the barn but yes, you stay on your own property.

Reading. Definitely reading. If I actually have nothing to do, nothing on my mind, the luxury of spending an afternoon just reading is wonderful for me. And making soup. If I'm at the Maryland house, the perfect day for me would be either a rain storm or a killer blizzard, the fixings for making soup or sauce, and reading while watching the weather. If I had the luxury of a full week to do this, I'd die happy.

Read a book or watch a good old movie.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

This time of year sit in front of the wood stove and watch some Birch turn to ash. Then probably reload some ammo. I always find that relaxing and productive.

LOL! I also love to read and make soup - and bread! (I have a sponge going as we speak.)

I'm not ruling out day-drinking and belly dancing just yet, though.

Make it late October, after the mosquitos die off but before it gets bitter cold, and I'll join you. We won't say 3 words to each other all week - just read and swap books and eat psghetti.

It's a deal. But for at least one of those afternoons it would have to be a trip to the wildlife refuge to stare at all the herons. The two at my house are a little standoffish.

Okay, you're invited too...but I think that just broke one of the rules of the thread!

Depends a lot on the weather and such. And, it depends upon whether we're talking about now or a few years ago.

Assuming it wasn't just beastly hot, a few years ago the answer would have been "go out to my putter shed and ... putter." Nowadays, puttering doesn't really happen for me, nor do I have a putter shed any more. Too bad: it was a good little man-cave.

Nowadays, most likely, watch a game/movie, read, nap, or probably some combination of all of these. But frankly, I'm at least as likely to take that time and go somewhere, which would be against the rules for these purposes. A lot of times, if it's really hot in the summer, I'll drive up to Monteagle, just a little over an hour away, and spend the day there, because it can be 105° in Nashville and only 75° up on the mountain. Or, I may just pick a spot on a map that looks interesting and go see what's there.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now
