Snakes in the drain! Texas woman finds 12ft African python slithering around her bathroom

A Texas homeowner got a shock when she walked into the bathroom of her College Station home to find a 12ft python wrapped around her toilet bowl.

Veronica Rodriguez, 50, discovered the huge African python slithering across the bathroom floor earlier this month.

It is believed that the python got in through the back door to Ms Rodriguez's home, which she shares her teenage daughter Kelsie.

Exactly when this happened is unknown - although she admitted the door had been left open while she was doing chores throughout the day.

Ms Rodriguez was on the phone when she heard noises coming from the bathroom.

She told The Eagle: 'When I opened her bathroom door, there was a 12-foot python. I didn't know what I was going to do with a snake that large.'

She called 911 and the responding officer showed up with a paper bag. Ms Rodriguez said that she told him: 'You're going to need a bigger sack than that.'

Yeah, you're going to need a real sack to confront that.

Well, it could be worse - it could have hidden in the bedroom or something.

Nice snake!! I sold my Reticulated Python at a nice profit when he was about a foot smaller than that. They are just too potentially dangerous over ten feet.

I have a herpetologist friend who would have just LOVED to have been there for that.

She was right, though: what you need for one that big is a good burlap bag like what seed comes in. Get the snake in the bag (not really all that difficult most of the time, actually; snakes get in bags almost as easily as cats get in boxes), take the bag somewhere else. They can't bite through the bag and they can't constrict anything that isn't in the bag.

Keep the bag away from your body!! That snake also probably weighed close to 100+ pounds. Good luck holding the bag away from your body.

His trick is what he calls the "Huck Finn."

This is, of course, just a representation of the similar drawings of Finn back when I read it, but the idea is still the same: a bag suspended on a pole some distance away from the body, and that's exactly how Jeff carries snakes out of where-ever, most recently large rattlers in the swamps of South Carolina. While I don't think he's had anything this big in South Carolina, he was in Zimbabwe recently pulling some monsters out of that countryside and lecturing on them at the University of Harare. He carried some big ones out of there.

He did tell me once of carrying a constrictor out of the Amazon so big that it basically took a litter to carry it out: suspended in a bag carried between two poles by four strong men. That's a big dude right there.
