  • And Why Not?

I haven't really been documenting the work as much as I should but here's some of the latest nonsense.

It is going to take a long, long time.

    It already has, I guess.

Steering wheel, seats, and beginning to remove the carpet to get a look at the floor situation in this one.

Colonel Vogel : What does the diary tell you that it doesn't tell us?

Professor Henry Jones : It tells me, that goose-stepping morons like yourself should try *reading* books instead of *burning* them!

    It is a mess.

I am beginning the rewiring process, now. I made spaghetti this weekend. Wiring removed to the dash; which is a hodgepodge of spit and baling wire from the previous owners. The rust on the floor looks bad but not all the way through. I should be able to avoid any serious welding work.

Yes. I am tired of working on the house. I need a new Lost Cause.

Very cool! Imagine how satisfying it will be to tool around in a nifty restoration once you are done.

The good news is that, at least by today's standards, the wiring is relatively simple. The bad news is that it seems likely that it's going to be a serious PIA to get at it all unless you can pull that whole dashboard, which in itself is a serious PIA.

Good news that there is no rust-through.

The dash has to come out for a couple of reasons. The main one being I am replacing it with a wood version which is another way of saying, "vanity."

You call it "vanity," I call it "looking like a proper British roadster should look." I wholly approve of putting in a nice wood dash on an AH.

If you're pulling it anyway, then at least the wiring should be relatively easy to deal with. Are the relays and fuse box under the dash or under the hood?

They are supposed to be under the hood. They were hanging down randomly behind the dash. I still haven't figured out why just yet. Going to just let that one go and put the new one on the passenger side firewall under the hood.

As good a plan as any.

Is this your second one to restore, or first?

I'm embarrassed to say I don't know makes and models..what is it?
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

I could be mistaken, but I believe it is an Austin-Healey Sprite, I think a '68 model.

I restored a different car a long time ago. This is the one I got a couple years back. I have done all the engine, transmission, and brake work (it neither ran well nor stopped at all when I got it). I took a break from it to build a shed and work on the house (always something there) before I tackled the cosmetics. I have tinkered on it some here and there but not in earnest for some time. I decided to dive back in by rewiring it because I must pay for my sins in some manner. But mostly, it is time for the cosmetic work, which is the most expensive bit. I have been avoiding that because I can do all the mechanic stuff for the most part but can only go so far when it comes to tarting it up.

It is a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine.

It will hopefully look like this when I am finished (it was originally Forest Green ... some douche painted it Carnival Red).

Yes, I will get the 14" Panasports. I already have the hubs and will get rid of the wires and knock offs.
