    Ellen Degenneres is back as host. She really is funny. Already she's made me laugh out loud at least 5 times. I love how she pokes fun at the Hollywood elite. A genuinely funny woman.

    What's wrong with Kim Novak's voice?
    The year's at the spring
    And day's at the morn;
    Morning's at seven;
    The hill-side's dew-pearled;
    The lark's on the wing;
    The snail's on the thorn:
    God's in his heaven—
    All's right with the world!

      It's hard to make sounds when your cheeks and forehead are FROZEN. She was just getting into the spirit of the night...or something.

        I can't tell you the last time I watched The Oscars..and then I heard Ellen was hosting. The selfies and ordering pizza..loved it! She is so brilliant when it comes to comedy.
        May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
        Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
        And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
        may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

          I do not like the white tux, though. The black was definitely better.

            I never watch any of the award shows, be that the Oscars or the Grammys or the CMAs or any of that. Just of zero interest to me.

            I doubt I would have watched last night just because Ellen was hosting, but I may have been slightly more inclined to had I known she was hosting, which I didn't. They were singing her praises on the radio this morning, so apparently she was pretty good, as I would expect her to be: that's really sort of her niche anyway.
            It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
            In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
            Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
            Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

              She's no Seth MacFarlane.

                I've always thought she was funny doing stand-up. She does the "pregnant pause" thing very well, which works well for the commercials that she does. I never thought she did the sit-com thing too well, and I'm not really into her chat show (it's on in the middle of the day when I couldn't watch anyway).

                  She started off very well. However, by the end of the first quarter it really lagged. She dragged out the "gags" too much.

                  I agree with you that she has the perfect comedy timing for this type of thing. I barely remember her sitcom (for some reason I always remember that it debuted the same year as "Friends", but hers was called "These Friends of Mine"...she changed the name to Ellen because of the conflict). I don't remember much of the show, though.

                  I don't watch her chat show, because I don't really watch those things. I occasionally see a segment if it's posted on You tube for some reason and have always found those segments to be funny. She's got a nice way about her, and can be very spontaneously funny, so I think that format probably fits her as well.

                  I like the awards shows because I like to see what all the women are wearing. But it really dragged, and in large measure that was her fault. I'd still watch her again, as she's still infinitely better than most hosts. But I do like Amy Poehler and Tina Fay together as hosts, as well as Neil Patrick Harris. All of them have great timing as comedians and are good with the one-liners on such a show.
