All I can think is that pretty much all of that would shatter my hip, if it weren't already ruined.

Disclaimer: I'm already disqualified from dancing anything more complicated than a waltz because I'm straight, white, and male. Three strikes; I'm out.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

I've watched it a few times now. I wish they would have given each dance type more time. Like I said, I liked L for Liquid. Did you have a favorite?

            Tough call.

I've always been impressed by "the pole," to the point that even back in my days as a cabbie and spending a lot of time in titty bars, I've been fairly amazed at the sheer athleticism involved, to the point that I literally stopped noticing that the woman in question was stark naked (Nashville was still a "fully nude" city at the time). I also have to say that I'm impressed with the "Memphis juke," because that clearly takes some serious skill as well as some pretty serious strength training*.

If I were to wish I could do any of these, I would want to do the "East coast swing," not only because I think it's really cool dance, but also because it looks like a lot of fun and it comes a lot closer to my preferred music style: I love the idea of how much fun it would be (if I could dance worth a shit) to do that with Glenn Miller as the beat.

Bizarre trivia: once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, I was actually taught how to tango. Though borderline scandalous at the time, we in Fortnightly were taught, as one of the final lessons in the class, how to tango, and I was actually half-ass good at it (just from the dance aspect of it). Of course, it's a lot easier, from a purely physical standpoint, to tango with an 80-lb. eleven-year-old girl than it is to do the same with a fully-grown 120-lb. woman, and, frankly, girls that age are more bendy.

            * One of the Sunday shows about two weeks ago did a profile of Misty Copeland. I always knew that ballerinas had to be incredibly physically capable, but this particular segment showed just how tough it is, and it's pretty amazingly tough when you get to that level.

Pretty neat. My favorites, of course, were Arabesque and Grand Jete.

Oh...and Adam, Misty Copeland has horrible dancer's legs. I hate the hyper extended knee. A girl I danced with had that...beautiful dancer but for that.

I have no particular opinion upon Ms. Copeland's abilities or her appearance. Frankly, it's hard for me to fathom a way in which I could manage to care less about ballet all together; it's just not my thing, much like opera. I was just impressed by the level of strength and endurance training that professional ballerinas must endure to ply their craft.

Oh, she's very good. But she's obviously been trained in the Russian style that produces very large calves (looks like a ball below her knee) and the lower part of her leg actually looks like it extends backwards. Makes for a very ugly line. Not much she can do about that. But she's a talented dancer. I love ballet.

If you are referring to the body position as being painful looking I agree. If you are referring to the muscularity I would say that is not an option. Any elite athlete, except a body builder who micro defines the size of muscle groups with targeted workouts, will develop the body their genetics, diet, and workout routine determines.

Miranda Oldroyd is a good example. She is frequently accused of using roids yet has continually tested negative. Her musculature is a result of HOURS of very strenuous exercise that includes facets of Olympic lifts incorporated into Crossfit.

Her body position is not particularly painful at all. The thigh and knee issue are primarily from genetics. The calf muscle is primarily from the training. There are some genres of ballet that really tend to build up the calf muscle to make it a ball. Many modern era Russian ballet masters have adapted a different regimen so that the leg muscles, particularly the calf muscles, will be more elongated. They will always be hard as a rock, but they don't have to look like a rock.

Same same. I'm also kind of into the Indian Bhangra/Bollywood dance. I would love to learn it.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

I think he was just imagining them clamped around his lower back.
                              Enjoy.
