Amateur Photographer Shoots Largest Ever True Color Photo of the Night Sky

What you see above is the largest true-color photograph of the night sky ever created, shot by 28-year-old amateur astrophotographer Nick Risinger using six astronomical cameras. It’s not just the view of the sky from one location, but is instead a 360-panoramic view of the sky taken by trekking 60,000 miles across the western United States and South Africa starting in March 2010. The final image is composed of 37,000 separate photographs. Check out the massive zoomable high-definition version of the photo here.

    I aim with my eye.

    I shoot with my mind.

    I kill with my heart.”

I tell climatologists that they don't have a lock on actual Science and they ask for my credentials. When I say I'm an amateur astronomer so I get the process they tell me that I just don't understand Science (otherwise I'd be working for a research facility).

"Ivory Tower" indeed. I'm glad that Astronomy is still true science, and results matter more than politics.

When I first saw this story I thought of you, Scott. Lots of amateurs doing great things.

I've seen people say that climate science is whatever the IPCC says.

You just can't reason with that kind of cultist.

Remember when so many were singing the praises of peer-review and insisting that EVERY piece of the IPCC reports was thoroughly vetted and peer-reviewed?

          Good times.

            "good post"; "like", "thanks"
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

I was gonna say, "Hey, cool picture" but I misread the nature of the thread.

              So, instead, "Scientists suck!"
              Enjoy.

                Good times.
Then they went and bastardized the peer-review process.

Climate science is nothing but an echo chamber.

Are you so easily swayed by the actions of others?

As far as I know, you think the ivory tower cultists are just swell.

I hope you are aware that there is more to Science than just Climatology. In fact, Astronomy is a Science too! Medicine might be, you should check. But perhaps you should stay away from Computer Science. It's hard, which is why you won't find much of it in Climatology.

Climatology is, more than anything, statistics.

But you won't find a single statistician amongst 'em.

I'm pretty sure the newer studies are now done with assistance of qualified statisticians. But they are still building on the bad foundation and they take the old homogenized data as fact. They have to, the raw data doesn't exist anymore.

He was being humorous or possibly ironic. Forget that - the pic is totally awesome and he knows it.
