Well, they have quite a few virtues compared to most contemporary art we see:
1. The subject matter is both detectable (always a virtue in the visual arts) as well as being broad enough to relate to for Western viewers. You might not think it's funny but you can "get" the joke.
2. The style shows a grasp of technique. It's always enjoyable to see how artists employ technique when they have any.
