It's a bit subjective. For example, I have visited Texas many times, but almost all of those times have been the Dallas-Fort Worth area and/or Houston, never Austin or El Paso or Abeline or El Paso or Amarillo. Same goes with Alaska: I have visited the "cruise area" extensively, along with a few extra trips to Juneau and Anchorage and once to Fairbanks (never left the airport), but I certainly have never seen anything like most of the rest of the state. IOW, you have to make up your own definition for "been there extensively" or whatever it says.
Still, it make for a pretty cool "bucket list" for me. I definitely want to hit all 50. This is, if nothing else, a big reminder to me that I really want to go to New Mexico (most specifically the balloon festival in Albuquerque) and Montana, both via the great American train trip.
Where have you been? Where would you like to go?

amber for states where you've at least slept and seen some sights.
blue for states you've spent a lot of time in or seen a fair amount of.
green for states you've spent a great deal of time in on multiple visits.
