  • Surprise! Free doesn't actually mean free.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The recently passed “living wage” in Milwaukee County already could be spurring job growth — in the public sector.

Taxpayers are being asked to spend nearly $218,000 a year to hire three new compliance officers to oversee the county’s union-influenced living-wage law.

The county’s Audit Services Division on Thursday will present a resolution on the potential staffing increase to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.

The proposal contradicts repeated claims by Supervisor David Bowen that the $11.32-an-hour living wage he authored with Service Employee International Union-affiliated officials would not cost taxpayers because businesses contracting with the county would absorb the added expenses.
It just amazes me that seemingly intelligent people buy this same snake oil over and over and over and over again. This time, somehow "free" will actually be free, even though it never, ever has been in the past.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

I hope people keep examples like this in the back of their head as the Senate starts to debate the $10.10 Federal Min Wage.

Seeing as how there is already a minimum wage in effect, how would raising it require additional compliance officers?
      Enjoy.

First off the Senate will bring the wage to a vote just to show how evil the Republicans are when they won't vote for it.

Second off any increase in the minimum wage will end up costing money, there will not be some magical economic boom like the left pretends there will be.

Rory Reid was on television today trying to claim that most people working for minimum wage are single mothers with children. How is that my fault? He also left out the part that in Nevada that tipped workers still get the full minimum wage, so that is their base pay before tips.
