  • Be lazy to save the planet!

More common sense from Mike Rowe.

It now appears we have a new culprit that explains the cause of global warming - hard work.

Early this morning, one of San Francisco’s free newspapers found it’s way to the sidewalk in front of my apartment, proving yet again that you don't always get what you pay for. Because I abhor litter, I picked it up for deposit it in my mandatory recycling container. But not before glancing at the headline.

Apparently, this is their annual Green Issue, and their contention is pretty straightforward - work is killing the planet. Below the headline it gets better - “Climate Change Threats Revive the Long Forgotten Goal of Taking it Easier.”

    [....]

Occasionally, people say “Mike, what makes you believe such a thing? What makes you think that society is waging a war against hard work?” I have a book full of examples. And if I had seen this headline before I wrote it, I would have included one more...
The mind-boggling stupidity of these kooks printing up and then depositing in the driveways of people all across the Bay Area a paper that is a "green issue" is just amazing.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

Mike Rowe lives in San Franscisco?

    That's unexpected.

We could do a Dobie Gillis trivia thread.

People who live in mud huts, carry tons of water a month, and spend 3 hours a day picking ticks off livestock aren't exactly taking it easy even if they appear to have a less harried lifestyle.

A low rent/low productivity lifestyle is only possible in a welfare state. Without the welfare state, you have to beat women into submission one way or another so that they will carry your water, pick off your ticks, or repair your hut.

Basically, it's the same everywhere. Either you have make women and children that you know take care of you or you have to make men, women, and children that you don't know take care of you through the State.

Either way, somebody else is working.

He has a great message and a great cause.

Consequently, he pisses people off which is weird since he is pretty apolitical.

Edit: I should have said non-partisan since what he advocates necessarily is political.

Very true. He is extremely non-partisan and I like that he refuses to let the political parties use him for partisan purposes. I also really liked that his shows focus on real people and real jobs. He keeps the focus on the honor and respect that should be given to those that do those jobs.
