  • Debbie Stupidwoman-Schultz unwittingly comes out against Obamafail

It took all of eight minutes for people to pounce on that one.

There are dustbunnies under my sofa that are smarter than this woman.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

No matter what she has said, democrats are not going to run on obamacare. Their old standy, GOP War on Women, is always a good standby though.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

My head will explode if I hear, "A woman only makes 77 cents compared to a man making a dollar" anymore.

The GOP should shoot back with, "Well, if she worked 100% of the time, that would change".

Women have a lot of great reasons to work fewer hours and fewer years than men work. Women have compelling reasons to avoid construction, oil rigs, garbage pick-up jobs, and sewer maintenance. More women than men like touchy-feely work that is long on atmosphere but short on pay. So what? We can - that's what the whole "choice" thing was really supposed to be about.

But some choices have different outcomes. If your goal is to make $100,000 a year then don't go into social work or decide to stay home for 15 years. Neither social work nor staying home is a bad choice but it won't get most women to the 100k job.

I don't pay much attention to the congressperson from Miami/Dade, any more than I generally pay attention to anyone else I lack the right to vote for or against. I neither support nor dislike this elected official, because I simply don't care enough to know enough about her.

However, the repeated insistence on making this lame joke on her name, with its not-so-veiled whiff of misogyny, is beyond old and annoying.

Shall we call you "Adam Hard-on?"
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

It has nothing to do with misogyny. It has everything to do with this particular woman repeatedly engaging in stupid in public.

If it were about misogyny, I would think that all women are stupid, and that clearly is not true. I certainly don't think you're stupid, for example. I may disagree with you on a lot of things, but it's quite apparent to me that you're anything but stupid. There are lots and lots of women whom I admire because they are intelligent, accomplished women who display their intelligence just as well as their poise, their tact, etc. Condi Rice, for example, is clearly brilliant. Margaret Thatcher was certainly no dummy. Rachel Maddow is quite intelligent. She's a serial liar, but she's definitely intelligent. Kirsten Powers is quite intelligent, even though I disagree with her on most issues.

It has nothing to do with me believing that Debbie is somehow inferior because she's a woman. It has everything to do with the fact that she's easily outwitted by a bag of anvils.

            Misogyny? She's stupid. That's a fact.

No woman can be stupid unless all women are stupid.

This. It drives me nuts to hear the bullshit about women's pay. If anything, women are given huge breaks in the workforce due to childcare issues. Women with kids are the first to call out in bad weather because the schools are closed, to stay home because the kid is sick, to go home earlier than the rest just to be with the kids. I'm not saying it's wrong for them to do that, but productivity is an issue. In my firm there are 3 women and 2 men. Guess who puts in the longer hours...the two men and me. It's a fact. To fail to take that into consideration in factoring wages is appropriate. In my work, your time is your money. If one person is billing 140 hours/month and another is billing 110/month, it equates to more money. If one person is there to meet and handle the last minute new client and the other is not...it equates to more money.

2-3 months off every time you have a kid is going to set you back, I don't care how you slice it. Sure, I have a few top earning female clients who really do do it all, but those women are few and far between. I don't at all condemn women for having their jobs or careers take a back seat to raising their children, but it comes at a financial price.

The teaching field is one of those examples. Sure, the pay is generally not as good as some in private enterprise, but considering the 9 month work year, the built in holidays, shorter days and benefits, it's a great gig that allows the parent to spend decent quality time with their kids as well. All a choice. Would I have done it for the last 25 years? Hell no. I made a choice to do something that I loved and make money as well. But part of my trade off was long hours and in some ways insecurity with income and my future, as I've never had an employer take care of my retirement needs.
Not where I breathe, but where I love, I live...

In business, you can't have equality based on showing up. Time is money in most types of work. Where i work, we have a very generous attitude toward women with children, we have a guarded attitude toward men with kids, we have a dismissive attitude toward persons of either sex who do not have children. But the pay is not the same.

Those of us who work those hours, travel, do on-call, work weekends or nights, or who babysit clients through whatever get paid more. Why not? We work more.

We do the planning, the meetings, the on-site evaluations. We travel. We cheer the clients at their inconvenient homes and businesses and we console the clients at their inconvenient meeting places. We do take that trip that involves miles and hours (out here) to go off-road and then slog up some ridiculous slope to check that one thing. We work 24/7. It's not the Moms or Dads who do that critical procedure on Christmas Day. We let them off - rightly so.

But we don't pay them the same - rightly so.

I was taking the misogyny accusation to it's logical conclusion based on Adam's post and Celeste's reply.
