  • Louisiana governor calls on congressman at center of kissing scandal to resign

MONROE, La. (AP) -- Republican Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is calling for the resignation of one of his state's GOP congressmen who was videotaped kissing a married woman who is not his wife.

Jindal called Rep. Vance McAllister's behavior "an embarrassment."

The governor said Thursday in a statement that if McAllister wants privacy as he's claimed, "the best way to get privacy and work on putting his family back together is to resign from Congress."

McAllister's office says "as of now, there are no plans of resignation."

McAllister defeated one of Jindal's close allies in the November special election to take the congressional seat.

Jindal's call for resignation joins that of the chairman of the state GOP, Roger Villere, who issued a blistering statement describing McAllister's behavior as "a breach of trust."
    As well he should.

    Good grief, what an embarrassment.

UPDATE: McAllister won't seek re-election, will finish term:

UPDATE 11:32 a.m.: Fifth District U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister won’t seek re-election this fall but will complete his term.

As first reported at thenewsstar.com, McAllister, R-Swartz, said he and his wife Kelly made the final decision Monday morning. The couple is flying to Washington, D.C. together today as Congress goes back into session.

McAllister has been under siege since a scandal broke before Easter when a video was published showing the married congressman kissing a married former staffer.

    [....]

McAllister said his wife decided to accompany him to Washington “because she knows it’s going to be a firestorm when I get there and she didn’t want me to face it alone.”

Translation: "My wife is going to have me on a leash about three inches long because I'm an idiot and a cad."

    Moron.
