Dem’s $100K bet against ‘bunch of whites’ backfires in face of diversity rally

An Alabama state lawmaker, Rep. Alvin Holmes, who rocked national headlines with his perceived racist claim that few whites in the nation would ever adopt black children — and who then backed his view with a $100,000 bet — may now have to pay up, or at least shut up.

Faces of Families in Alabama started a Facebook page for families in the state to post their pictures and stories about their mixed-race adoptions. So far, the page has more than 7,000 “likes,” and the group is fielding new photos on a daily basis that show how families come in all colors and mixed races, The Blaze reported.

The group took their outrage to the steps of the State House this week as a more in-your-face demonstration to Mr. Holmes of just how diverse families in the state really were, the media outlet said.

But the peaceful protest hardly shook Mr. Holmes‘ views.

His original statement, made during a legislative session on abortion rights, was that the Republican Party would by and large support abortion if their daughters — ostensibly white — were impregnated by black men. He then said he’d pay $100,000 in cash to anyone who could show him “a bunch of whites” who have actually adopted black children in the state of Alabama.

After Faces of Families in Alabama did, however, Mr. Holmes countered with this statement to a local television station: “The majority of the white people in the state of Alabama are against adopting black children,” he said.

Protesting group members asked for his apology — and some, his resignation. Mr. Holmes has yet to address the payout of his $100,000 bet.
Just infuriating. Everybody even remotely involved in adoption knows that whites will adopt any kind of kid under 5 or so. Handicapped kids, mixed race, all black, even kids with a terminal diagnosis.

It is true that fewer people will consider older kids who have complicated familial ties but that's not the fault of adopters, it's the fault of social services staff who virtually imprison kids in a cycle of reunification and foster care.

Holmes is a loon, but it's hilarious watching the racists on the Left try to either excoriate him or defend him. The ones defending him are absolutely convinced that he was right to claim that white people would go have their daughter's mulatto babies aborted, and the ones excoriating him are convinced that Holmes is a white Republican who just let those words slip out. It really is a laugh riot.

Why is racism tolerated so much on the left?
"Faith is nothing but a firm assent of the mind : which, if it be regulated, as is our duty, cannot be afforded to anything but upon good reason, and so cannot be opposite to it."

Tolerated? More like embraced. Where would they be without racism? If they didn't have racism or sexism, they wouldn't have any causes left except economic ones, and those they lose because math.

Oh man, that's a riot. Alvin Holmes is definitely outspoken for an Alabama Democrat, and often for the wrong reasons.

Maybe if he'd leave his little black bubble occasionally he'd see that it's true, white people adopt all kinds of folks. I've seen black babies and Asian kids just in the last week around my next of the woods.

I don't doubt that our Republican lawmakers would support abortion in the case of white ladies getting raped by black men, in secret, though. That sort of "affront to good taste" would bite through the thin veneer of tolerance we have, if you know what I mean.

We also have a lot of interracial couples who make little brown babies, and people hate that too. But at the same time, no one's stupid enough to say it out loud, or try to stop it. Alvin needs to check in with reality, the 21st Century arrived and his antiquated notions of how we behave are outdated.

Holmes sounds like an ass. Is a whir parent thrilled to discover their grandchild is going to be black? As a rule, I doubt it. But then parents seldom approve 100% of their children's choices in mating. Once the grandkid (I want to kill whomever started the 'my grand babies' thing) comes along, you see old Joe Redneck Lunchbox and Mrs. Worthington Smythe at the playground with little Heinz and Dalmatia.

I would note that when gay people or couples adopt children, often of the difficult to place variety, SOME people who describe themselves as conservative and/or republican accuse them of everything from a fashion statement, to political maneuvers, to sexual predation. So those people deserve to be slapped pretty hard with a crabber's glove.

            The lark's on the wing;
            The snail's on the thorn:

Shoot. That I can tolerate. It's "baby momma" and "baby daddy" that make my skin crawl.

It's neither here nor there, but Alvin Holmes is the ONLY Alabama state representative who openly support gay marriage in this state. He introduces a bill to legalize it every year, and every year it fails miserably.

Good news! There's someone challenging Holmes.

My guess is that she doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell, but it's certainly worth a shot.
