  • "Affordable Care"

I listen to AM news radio while getting ready for work and then a Hip Hop Station on the way to work. The Hip Hop station has two morning DJ's that occasionally voice a political opinion about local or national news and it is always very left leaning, touchy feely, we need to help the poor drival.

This morning they both went on a right wing drunken bender about the meeting earlier in the morning with the station owner and how she has laid out how the Afforable Care Act will personally affect them. Sorry I can't quote perfectly but here's the jist.

    DJ1 - "I can't believe this. don't they know how little I make?

DJ2 - "You don't have a child to feed either"

DJ1 - "I just thought this Obamacare stuff was going to be such a great idea because now everybody could have health insurance."

DJ2 - "Exactly, I didn't realize I would have to pay for it"

That's weird. Did they not have health insurance before? I know there are some stories about people without health insurance being upset at the cost on the exchanges. I don't know much about existing stuff except a couple of friends saying that the companies they work for will drop their spouse coverage if the spouse can get coverage at their own place of employment. But I figured most of that sort of thing is a business level decision that has nothing to do with the ACA and that the ACA is just a convenient excuse to trim costs and redirect the ire away from the employer.

While that may be true in some cases, in other instances it has to do with the fact that the policies that used to be offered can no longer be offered due to ACA minimum coverage mandates.
My policy through BCBS is staggeringly high because I am covered as a single policy holder as opposed to group coverage. Effective with the ACA, I must change from my old policy to a new one because I did not have coverage for things like child birth and maternity care, substance abuse et al.

While there may be some relief in knowing that if I am the first biological male in history to need a hysterectomy, I will be covered, it means that my old policy (that I liked and was promised I could keep) is more inclusive than need be and as a result, even more expensive. I may now fall into the Cadillac category which means I either buy cheaper insurance with higher deductibles and co-pays or pax an additional tax on based on the value of the plan.

I have talked to several people and small business owners that are faced with similar dilemas. They offered reasonable policies tailored to the needs of those covered only to find they are no longer available, offered or legal.
                We are so fucked.

I think they did but it did not meet the standards of the ACA and the employer will have to switch their coverage and is thus passing the increased cost on to the employees. I guess their profit margin as a rradio station did not give them the luxury of absorbing the increase cost.

Here's an email I received today:

                      ObamaCare Health Info
                      To Me
ObamaCare - Health Coverage for Low Income & UNEMPLOYED! Do You Qualify? - Click Here

The weird thing is there were two links within the email to click on and neither one of them worked.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

I wouldn't click any link on an e-mail like that. That's just begging to get a virus.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you

Yep. I'll bet that's the new thing with all the e-scum all around the world. What a perfect way to wreak havoc in America, beings how this is a 'requirement'.

Every Friday morning, a lady from our local BBB office is on morning drive for one segment, talking about various scams, companies that are trouble, etc. Over the last six months or so, I can't even count how many Obamacare scams she has warned people about. People posing as these "advisers" or "helpers" or whatever it is they're called, going door-to-door and collecting money from people who think that they're getting Obamacare, phone scams getting people to sign up for "insurance" that is supposedly "Obamacare-compliant," and e-mail scams in the same vein. The logical progression is to have spoofed e-mails out there that pollute people's computers with every imaginable form of trojan horse to suck up all of someone's banking and credit card information.
