Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday deflected charges that the administration misled the American people about being able to keep their health plans under ObamaCare -- claiming that despite thousands of cancellation notices, the White House is keeping its promise.
[....]
"The news seems to get worse by the day," Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said at the start of the hearing before his committee. From the outset, Upton grilled Sebelius on those notices, asking why a change was made allowing certain insurance policies to be ruled ineligible under ObamaCare.
Sebelius, however, claimed: "There was no change."
And then there's this from the highlight reel:
Sebelius: “Policies will cover maternity coverage for the young and the healthy—â€
Ellmers: “Including men?â€
Sebelius: “30-year-olds will also have a choice of a catastrophic plan which has no maternity coverage?â€
Ellmers “The catastrophic, but the men are required to purchase maternity coverage?â€
Sebelius: “The insurance policy has benefits whether you use them or not, and one of the benefits will be maternity coverage, mental health coverage, domestic violence coverage.â€
Ellmers: “And that is why health care premiums are increasing, because we’re forcing them to buy things they will never need. Thank you, madam chairman.â€
Sebelius: “The individual policies cover families. Men often do need maternity coverage for their spouses and for their families, yes.â€
Ellmers: “A single male age 32 does not need maternity coverage. To the best of your knowledge has a man ever delivered a baby?â€
Sebelius: “I don’t think so.â€
