  • If you like your plan you can keep it

Well...we liked our plan with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but looks like we can't keep it. Out of 6 people on the plan, 1 person got a similar plan cheaper...the 32 year old male. Who did the increase effect the most? The 40 year old single mom with 2 kids. It's a 26% increase for her. Completely ridiculous. In this economy, most employers are not giving raises. Last year we capped how much we would spend on health insurance for our employees. In previous years we covered 100% of all insurances (medical, dental, life and disability). We simply can not afford to do so anymore. We capped it at last year's rates, so that there was a 1 year "notice" of any increased costs having to be born by the employee. Oddly enough, the insurance carrier is claiming it's a 7% increase, but that's simply faulty information.

I'm glad some people can feel better that what Obama said was simply a "sales pitch" and not meant to be taken seriously. My employees have to take that "omission" seriously, as it costs them real dollars.

You give life insurance? Wow. I have never had that offered to me as any sort of benefit.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

Really? We always have. There was a time when the firm offered all medical insurance for free, but quite some time ago we stopped paying for dependents.

We had it when we worked for the Indian Health Service…federal tit and all that.

Strange, that's a pretty common benefit even for small firms, 1 or 2x salary. Of course they are engineered to not pay so the policies are inexpensive.

Usually group term, which is rather inexpensive.
