Liberal ‘media’ group gets $520G dark money donation for war on right
By Tori Richards Published December 04, 2013

Two weeks ago, the liberal Center for Media and Democracy kicked off a national campaign to reveal the identities of anonymous contributors to conservative groups in an effort to unseat the GOP governor here.

Now the group may have to answer embarrassing questions about its own finances.

A Watchdog.org review of financial documents reveals the Madison-based CMD, which bills itself as a journalism organization, received $520,000 in 2011 from the Schwab Charitable Fund. That’s 60 percent of the $864,740 CMD received that year.

CMD lists no donors on its tax returns, but its website identifies numerous financial backers without any financial data. Several are highlighted in bold and labeled “current donors.” But one important name is missing: Schwab.

Schwab is a so-called donor-advised fund -- a financial institution that manages contributions to nonprofits so that donors remain anonymous. Such donor-advised funds are legal. Like many nonprofits, Watchdog.org’s parent, the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, uses one, too.

But CMD and allied organizations have worked feverishly to suggest the practice is shady — and limited to conservatives. As recently as Monday, CMD attacked the practice on its own website.

    Too funny.

    - A group that wants to expose donors hides it's own donor list.
    - A news outlet that hammers companies for low pay uses free and poverty-level interns.
    - A union hires non-union protesters to picket a businesses.

Martha Whitehead ran for the office of Texas State Treasurer back in the 90's on the platform of eliminating the office (she was successful).

So their incredible hypocrisy gets a pass because they mean well?

You're just not nuanced enough to see how those things are good.

Maybe you could try drinking bong water.

Perhaps then I'd understand how Obama is sooooooo much better than Bush (who you know I never really liked either, especially after 2005).

"The adults are in charge" mantra was repeated so much that I actually started to believe it and I thought I just had a different perspective, a different worldview. But no - it's clear that these bureaucrats just cannot deliver results and they are in come cases true Fascists, and inept ones at that.

The guy who had the founders of Google behind him couldn't make a website work?

I can't imagine bong water can taste good at all.

This whole Administration has been a study in sheer incompetence, the result of believing that rhetoric trumps reality, that agenda is more important than individual liberties, that Party is more important than Nation.

The adults aren't in charge. Petulant children are.

                        And they are vindictive.

I'm still waiting on the data, but I think our city bureaucrats (full of Obama drones in a sea of Romney voters) targeted people for fees and retribution. I didn't get a water bill in October so I didn't pay it. I never gave it a second thought because I figured I'd just pay the bill when it came the next month. Well billing and payment cycles aligned so that I was 31 days late on a $32 bill, so my water got shut off.

Preliminary survey information says that I am one of a few hundred people that have never paid any water bill late but missed a payment this October and got their water shut off, while habitually late payers were spared the inconvenience and fees. I know there is a bit of a revolt going on where the city staff is asserting their authority and trying to raise awareness of just how much the city does for the people. Water is one of those things they say they do for us which is funny because the city acquired a monopoly on water by passing an ordinance outlawing any private source for water.

                        Gotta love government.

Stick an Obama sign in your yard next to the water meter. See what happens.
