  • Obama insists on mixing politics into the Olympics

And all this time I thought the Olympics were supposed to be about sports……

Obama selects gay athletes for Sochi delegation

"WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama sent Russia a clear message about its treatment of gays and lesbians with who he is — and isn't — sending to represent the United States at the Sochi Olympics.

Billie Jean King will be one of two openly gay athletes in the U.S. delegation for the opening and closing ceremonies, Obama announced Tuesday. For the first time since 2000, however, the U.S. will not send a president, former president, first lady or vice president to the Games."

What a stupid, petulant little pissant.

I don't agree with Russia's stance on homosexuality, either. I may disagree with homosexuality, I may find it abhorrent in public, and I find government-sanctioned "quashing" of homosexuality to be repugnant and wrong. That does not mean boycott the Olympics. How fucking stupid. There are a shit ton of policies in the UK that I don't agree with; I'll be damned if the US was boycotting that. There's policies in Australia I didn't agree with, but no one boycotted the Olympics there.

This is absurd beyond measure. Obama, unsurprisingly, is acting like a child in a room full of adults. What a fucking moron.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

Pretty much. Though it is funny to see some of the gay men I know finding out they have to cover maternity leave.

The 'Big Tent Party' is a conglomeration of special interests groups.

The head of the party, the current sitting President, has to throw a bone to groups now and then to remind them that the Party has their back.

He will do something for rabid abortionists sometime in the near future.

Then some consideration for the Climate Change idiots.

He will throw tidbits out to each special interest group between now and the next election to remind them.
99% of it will purely symbolic... but... it shows that The Party 'cares'.

We've gotten so far away from the original intention of the people who resurrected Olympic sports that maybe it's time to rethink the concept.

Then it was all about actual amateurs who were in it for the game and the sportsmanship but it quickly turned into a professional venue for cheaters and petulant contestants and now so many things are included (I expect speed knitting will be next) that it's a parody of the intent. Add transexuals in women's events and how long can be before a horse is entered into foot races on the grounds that a human event is "speciest"?

Maybe it's time to mothball the whole thing.
