Two men were arrested at the San Clemente checkpoint Thursday after agents found a load of marijuana-laced candy in their car, the Border Patrol said.
The two arrived at the checkpoint on Interstate 5 at 1 a.m. in a 2012 Chrysler.
In the trunk of the vehicle agents found three sealed boxes containing lollipops, hard candy and cookies laced with tetrahydrocannabinol, the constituent ingredient of the cannabis plant, the Border Patrol said.
The candy seemed to be "geared toward children," according to the Border Patrol.
Also found were three marijuana cigars, 15 marijuana electronic cigarette cartridges and 12.68 pounds of marijuana, the Border Patrol said.
The driver, 28, and his 18-year-old passenger were arrested. Their names were not released. Their car was also seized.

These kinds of hard candies infused with weed are used by ravers. A lot of ravers are under 18 but the appeal of hard candy and suckers is purely functional: too much X can wind you up and it makes you grind your teeth; weed (among other things) takes the edge off but the sucking motion relieves the jaw clenching.
Using candy to "hook" children on weed is a wild fantasy. Who would bother? You can instantly feel the effects from smoking or vaping weed whereas the effect from eating or licking edibles can take up to 90 minutes. Children already have short attention spans.
