  • The New Liberal Racism

    Last week we witnessed repeated efforts by Democrats to polarize the country along racial lines. Eric Holder, speaking at Al Sharpton's conference, implied that he and the President are being treated harshly because they are black. Then Nancy Pelosi claimed that Republicans are refusing to support an immigration bill because they don't like Hispanics. She actually said, "I've heard them [Republicans] say to the Irish, if this were just you, it would be easy." The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair, Rep. Steve Israel, was asked on CNN whether his Republican colleagues are racist. He answered, "Not all of them, no…But to a significant extent the Republican base does have elements that are animated by racism, and that's unfortunate."

    This is more than election year politics. It is worse than a crass attempt to manipulate black voters with fear of Republicans. It is the insidious new racism of liberal elites who masquerade as champions of racial justice. The old racism is obvious and unacceptable. However, the new liberal racism is camouflaged as a cure when it is in fact a far more deadly strain of the disease. It is time to expose and denounce it.

    The Republican base that Steve Israel says is animated by racism, nominated me -- an American of African descent and a great grandson of slaves -- for Lt. Governor of Virginia. They embraced me warmly, treated me respectfully and supported me enthusiastically. The liberal media on the other hand set out to destroy me. My white Democrat opponent was even caught on camera refusing to shake my hand. The new racism is very different in style from the old, but the same in substance. The old racists liked blacks who knew their place and stayed in it. The new racists behave exactly the same, but define our “place” as the Democrat liberal camp.

    When I won the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor of Virginia, the Washington Post and the Richmond Times Dispatch dedicated themselves to discrediting me. As a child, I lived in a foster home which had no indoor bathroom. Liberal reporters said that since they could not prove there was no indoor bathroom, I must have lied. I served as a Chaplain for the Boston Red Sox, but they said I must have made up that story because nearly twenty-five years later the Red Sox had no record of it. The press was not interested in Benghazi or the IRS scandal, but they combed through the minutiae of my life looking for something to diminish my achievements.

    Today’s liberal elites are the new virulent racists. When you agree with them, they honor you as an African-American. When you contradict their orthodoxy, they abuse you like a dog. Even liberal Juan Williams felt their wrath when he went off message.
    Particularly eloquently-stated. Not necessarily anything new here, but it is another voice in the growing chorus Black conservative voices.

    Here's a handy fact to ponder: Alabama has more Black people running as Republicans this cycle than ever before. I can only assume that they have steeled themselves to the inevitable onslaught of (often white) liberals howling "Uncle Tom!!!" at them, and are prepared to bulwark themselves against this and go forward.

    The message would have carried more weight if it hadn't been delivered by a bigoted asshole who happens to be black.
    The year's at the spring
    And day's at the morn;
    Morning's at seven;
    The hill-side's dew-pearled;
    The lark's on the wing;
    The snail's on the thorn:
    God's in his heaven—
    All's right with the world!

      I have been calling for unity across racial and cultural lines for decades, reminding audiences of the last line of our Pledge of Allegiance - "one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all." It is time for Democrat elites to stop dividing us and start bringing us together in fulfillment of that pledge.

      And someone might believe you are sincere if you were able to call the party you oppose by their name.
      Colonel Vogel : What does the diary tell you that it doesn't tell us?

      Professor Henry Jones : It tells me, that goose-stepping morons like yourself should try *reading* books instead of *burning* them!

          I doubt you or the Democratics can fight the use of nouns as modifiers in contemporary usage. Since he was referring to "elites" and not to the formal party, you should probably let that go.

          I'm more interested in this:
          Nancy Pelosi claimed that Republicans are refusing to support an immigration bill because they don't like Hispanics. She actually said, "I've heard them [Republicans] say to the Irish, if this were just you, it would be easy."
          I kind of bet she did hear that since I've said something similar to European friends myself. Except what I said was more along the lines of, "If it were the Swedes who were over-staying visas and sneaking into the country, our immigration problems would be easy since we would just deport all of you back home".
          "Alexa, slaughter the fatted calf."

              Really? I'm pretty sure she's making this up aka lying just has Harry Reid did when he said that someone told him that Mitt Romney didn't pay any income tax for 10 years.

              May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
              Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
              And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
              may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

                Sorry. I made the mistake of reading the entire article.

                  Then get exercised about the numerous local bodies using 'Democrat' as part of their official names. The So-and-So Democrat Club, the So-and-So Democrat Women's League, etc. I also read the entire article.

                  You are mistaking a normal English construction that has been around for over 100 years for a concerted attack on the grammarians among the Party. It just ain't so.

                  Members of the Democratic Party are normally and popularly called 'Democrats' because calling them 'Democratics' is weird. "Republican" is a normal construction when used to refer to members of that party. Not because of a nefarious plot to legitimize the GOP (it's legitimate already) but because it's a natural construction.

                  What do you want them called given that no one is going wrench their syntax around to constantly use "members of the Democratic Party"? Seriously, what's your solution?

                  Would you rather see."....Democratic party elites...."? The reference wasn't to the Party. It was to individuals who favor Democratic Party policies but did not encompass only party members (some might be, some might "centerists", or Independents).

                      You never seem to be inclined to answer any question. What do you want to call people in that case?

                      I'm sure the the answer is completely obvious and intuitive but most normal people, journalists, politicians (on both sides), and newsreaders have just missed the mark.

                        If I am talking about the Democratic Party, I am going to call them the Democratic Party. It is pretty straight forward. Not sure why you are going through all this other than general dickishness. You want to be a child, be a child or in this case, rationalize childish behavior. Don't get tetchy when it is pointed out. That's just being churlish.

                          So since this wasn't the Democratic Party (which I've pointed out several times), what do you want to call the people?

                          "People who favor Democratic Party policies.......", "People who may be Democratic Party Members......", ".....those who lend support to Democratic Party ideas at the highest level......".

                          You posted the article looking for a response - you got a reasonable response and now you're pissed. I'm just looking for your solution (and I know you have one). That not "dickish", it's reasonable in response to your post.

                            Notice the capitalized "P" in "Party"? Should be a dead giveaway that we was talking about a specific organization. I thought you would be able to pick up on that. All your other stuff is fluffery.

                            Sounds good. It has the benefit of being accurate, anyway. Except for the capitalized "M" in "Members." Not sure about that one.

                            I didn't post the article. I pointed out the guy who wrote it is full of shit. And I said why. Then you went on some tribal crusade and now I am still telling, what I thought was at least a moderately functioning adult that the name of the party is the Democratic Party.

                            Feel free to call it Green Peas. But that isn't its name.
                            And if some douche on the Internet can't get the name of the party right then I am going to take anything he (or she) has to say on the issue of unity with a grain of salt and consider any calls to come together as almost certainly complete bullshit.

                            YMMV

                              That's a lot of text to reaffirm your position without without offering a solution that isn't mocking, insulting, or deflecting. Actually, there's no solution you have offered.
