  • OK, talk to us

One of the things that Ginger and I discussed was trying to make the site more read-able to those of us who can no longer lie and claim 29 as our age any more. Basically, a Readers' Digest Easy-Read version for NEIP.

I was busy trying to figure out how to reverse the text color for the believer's forum and I accidentally wandered into how to change the font and size of the text. I tinkered with it a bit on a testing ground and found a way to raise most of the visible text by 1 pt. It's surprising how much easier that is on the eyes, but it's definitely different.

I believe I have mentioned before that I am still blessed with 20/20 or better vision well into my 40s, for which I am thankful. The "downside" of that for me is that I can't readily judge what works well for those who aren't as fortunate as I with their vision. So I'm not really sure if I'm chasing a rabbit down a hole or not.

So, what I'd like to know is whether, ceteris paribus people would like to have a slightly larger typeface on posts. There is no particular "loss" with this, because everything else should still work the same, but at the same time people can get fatigued trying to read larger fonts, too, and some people may just be comfortable with what they have and may not want a change. To that end, I'm polling people here to see what they think. If you'd like, I can provide a sample for comparison, but the skin itself will be dramatically different from what you're used to; you'll have to focus solely on the typeface and disregard any colors or anything like that.

      I'm 66 yrs old.

I have no problem with the font and the size.

If I do, I will hire a reader.

But she has to have to pass certain conditions.

If you want to apply, send me a msg.

From what I've seen, you will probably be auto rejected.

I voted to keep the font but change the size. I haven't noticed a major problem with reading the site, but I find that as I've gotten older my eyes are slipping a bit so every little bit helps.

On a side note, is there some sort of feature with this software where you can have it delete every other word in Bok's posts? I think that would make his posts more readable...

I just use the little thingy on my browser to increase the type size if I can't see it. What's the problem?

Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

Okay, I have no idea how to use my browser to increase the font. Another 2 pts. would be helpful.

If it's a windows computer, the easiest way is to hold down the CTRL key and spin the mouse wheel.

Just one question: what's a mouse wheel?

Although it's possible to to Cntl + the font up, it will change the spacing of everything and possibly degrade the user experience as sidebar items bleed into the main section and other negative changes take place.

By having a "native" larger font, these problems are not an issue. Naturally, the reverse is also true but less disruptive. If we went with a larger font, people who disliked it could use Cntl - to make it smaller and this wouldn't cause disruptive changes to the overall look of the site.

I voted for same font, larger size since it's more useful and less disruptive for most people.

                      Too logical.
                      I reject it outright.

This is why I didn't sleep with you in 1997. You just don't know a good thing when you see it...

Right now, increasing the size is ahead by one vote, with a second-place tie splitting between keeping the font size the same and changing the entire board to Hebrew.

I'd like to try to wrap this up this weekend, this and ironing out the believers' area skin, so if anyone is holding out on a vote, please do so. As my father used to say to us kids before we started out on a long road trip: speak now or forever hold your pee!

The Jews want a font increase but they won't pay retail. Who would, really? Count them for an increase.
